People / Ewan

A Rogue from Berwalsted

Ewan Foley

Is a young (for an elf) orphaned elvish rogue. His parents lived in the city of Dunthrane his father was a weaver and his mother a tailor. They were killed in a robbery gone bad when Ewan was small. Ewan was sent to live with his uncle Garber in an elven settlement in the Whispering Oak Forest. Garber had no time for "wastrel coddled whelps" and put Ewan to hard manual labour. Ewan, not being from the forest community had problems fitting in and was not accepted by the local elven children. Nothing Ewan did was ever good enough for Garber. Eventually he decided he would be better off on his own left in the middle of the night. He made his way back to Dunthrane and as far as he knows no-one bothered to look for him.

In Dunthrane, Ewan fell into petty theivery. He managed to avoid the local guards, but eventually came to the notice of the local theives guild. They gave him an ultimatum work for us or die. Ewan chose to work for them. Initially, he wasn't treated any better by the thieves guild than he was by his uncle. Eventually, his natural flair for acrobatics got him noticed and taken under the wing of the thief in charge of "high level entry". Ewan was a natural and quickly rose in stature under Axel Foley, eventually taking his mentor's surname as his own. It seemed Ewan had found his niche.

Tragedy struck when Ewan was surprised during what should have been a simple "retrieval" and killed the mayor's son Devlin. He was spotted fleeing the scene and quickly became a wanted man. Axel arranged for him to join a band of travelling acrobats, where Ewan has remained for the past 30 years. He is still wanted by the law but not by his Family.

Ewan has kept his hand in at the larceny racket while travelling with his troup, but they limit what they do to avoid people making the connection with a travelling troup and a spate of robberies. While travelling with the troup, they taught him the skills necessay to survive as a wandering entertainer. Ewan can play the lute and sing, as well as juggle and tumble.

Ewan is quick, silent and near invisible. He can use knives, and short swords, but prefers very light armour so that he is not encumbered.

Over the years Ewan has noticed that the adventurers he has seen again and again on his travels have become steadily more wealthy whereas he has remained in relative poverty. Recently, Ewan has decided to leave the troup and take up the life of a wandering adventurer. He has left the troup on good terms, and due to the nature of his travells, know thieves in most of the settled lands.
