Mawoo - Head of the Ancestor Spirits & Goddess of the Edcci people In Edcci mythology Mawoo is said to have descended from the coupling of the sun and moon. This is why the Edcci are great astronomers and solar and lunar eclipses are very important to them. It is said that many of great the ancestors of the Edooi nobel families sprang forth from her sacred womb. She was a powerful queen of the magical realm of Zamboowa that existed before the City State of Edcci. She lived for a very long time and out lived several husbands. It was fabled that she gained great power in her life and ascended to sit with the council of gods that govern all the reasoning peoples and races of this planet. It is said that she also created many of the great and wonderful animals of the Edcci region. Her children would tend to the animals and sometimes take on some of their attributes. These ancestors spirits have become minor deities within the Edcci religion. There’s Bambitoo the Monkey Lord who would a trickster. Madinoo Lady of the Cheetahs who is admired for her speed and cunning. Aquino the Lion Lord who would be respected the hunting clans. Kabush the Gorilla Lord who is venerated to get strength in battle. Kollisoo the Lady of the Elephants who is the chief ancestor of the clans that specialise in building the city of Edcci and her great fleet of trading ships. Many other ancestors spirits of the Edcci people are important to the great clans and noble houses, they all venerate their own for-bearers and have many stories about their great deeds. The Edcci people grow up with stories of courageous, wise or inventive ancestors and even children know the names of many of these ancestor spirits. The bards of Edcci are called the Griot, they are very important to the peoples of the land and are given high status in their society as they keep the stories of the ancestors alive. During the golden time of Mawoo, she was tormented by a primeval serpent named Ayda Hwa. As Mawoo created good and natural creatures, Ayda Hwa would sometimes eat them, sometimes empower them, and sometimes twist them. Often making them work against the natural order, which was so central to Mawoo and her followers. Over time Ayda Hwa started to gather human followers, who formed a powerful witch cult in the land. They gathered secret members from the powerful families and peasants alike. Ayda Hwa and his followers would often raise the dead and use these Duppy spirits to carry out nefarious tasks. The Edcci people have a strong disliking for undead and they believe it corrupts the ancestor spirits and gnaws at the foundation of their culture and society. |
